I was listening to a podcast the other day which was talking about how we need to become savvy to symbols because that is mostly what the world is. Honestly, symbols are EVERYTHING of what the world is. Words such as LOVE, TRUTH, BEAUTY & FREEDOM are not easily represented with a symbol - typically you require a whole story in order to establish meaning.
Even with that said, there is a large importance when it comes to context when establishing what those symbols mean in the appropriate time. Which is why today, we are looking at the word “Marvel”. In the Marvel universe, it is interesting - because the character “SHAZAM” was actually initially “Captain Marvel”. Shazam is DC, whereas who we think of as Captain Marvel as per the Marvel Cinematic Universe is this version that I am cosplaying in the video.
This Captain Marvel initially got her name from a male version of the hero - named Captain MAR-VELL; which is because it is an alien name. (The Aliens are called “Kree”, more of the use of that nomenclature in a later post.) It also sounds very Kryptonian (Kal-EL, Kara Zor-EL…hmmm). I get into the origin story in the video but this piece is more to introduce the deeper and multi meaning in words.
I welcome you to be open to the other incoded meanings in words, especially the ones that they don’t want you to use :)
