When it comes to the creative process, as video editor - I have chatted with my hubby (who is our resident DJ) about how there are commonalities in creation when it comes to both video & audio. One of the more “boring” aspects comes to curating and classifying each of the content bits… kind of like a library.
It makes sense right, if all of the books in the library were just all over the place - then it would be difficult to seek out what you are looking for. That being said, I do love traversing the library and finding books I otherwise would not have found. Back in the day I used to love visiting thrift stores and garage sales for the same reason.
In the DC Comic Book Multiverse, how the super heroes of the many worlds traverse the realms is on a ship of “frozen music”. Playing the ship’s harp strings would essentially be a way of steering and navigating. The symbolism of this is not lost on me. Songs are much like a story; have a structure as well as a unique meaning when interfaced with you - the dear observer.
The concept of portals is another thing. When we talk about “portals”… whatever do we mean? To me a portal is a gateway; a liminal in-between space that is neither here nor there. The etymology reiterates this meaning as such.
"gate, gateway," especially "the entire architectural treatment of the entrance and its surroundings of a cathedral or other grand building," from Old French portal "gate" (Modern French portail) and directly from Medieval Latin portale "city gate, porch," from neuter of portalis (adj.) "of a gate," from Latin porta "gate," from PIE *prta-, suffixed form of PIE root *per- (2) "to lead, pass over." The medical sense of "place where a drug, etc., enters or leaves the system" is by 1910.
It is also why in the dream state; when you think about going through a doorway; or a gate or even if you are somewhere like a train station or in a car going from one place to another… you are travelling in between. A portal only becomes a portal for YOU if you take the action to pass through.
Hence, why with certain music in and of itself - when you interface with the vibration - gateways within to your inner world open; reopen and are reawakened.
