Aloha Superhero Friends - happy Feb 1st - which I like to refer to as the beginning of “Love Month”. Myself and my hubby’s 10 year wedding anniversary is on February 3rd, which is a couple days away! I figured today would be good day to do a little creative writing challenge for myself. Oh - by the way, I have a few short stories published with Reedsy which you can get here.
So I decided in honour of Love Month, I would tell you, my dear readers, a love story from my memory banks. I was a very nerdy little kid, you see, and I loved ( and still do love ) the library. Each story, fictional and fantastical, has a nugget of truth nestled within it which also holds a breadcrumb of truth for you … from you, from an ancient future time.
Okay, so bringing this around to today’s Love Story. I don’f know if people know this, but the Comic Book character of Dick Grayson’s Nightwing’s name comes from an old Kryptonian dragon god - whom is also a guardian of the night. Kara Zor-El (Aka. Supergirl) is from Krypton, and so there’s already this cool connection between these two. There is actually a comic book issue where it talks about a date between Supergirl and Nighwing, but the date does not exactly go according to plan. Dick Grayson shows up in full superhero uniform as Nightwing, which throws Supergirl for a loop- because she thought she was going to just go as her alter ego - Kara… or Linda… depending on what universe you are in. On the way to the date, they end up having to take down some bad guys, and when they finally get to the restaurant… Nightwing realizes that he only brought his credit card, and then the waitress serving them will know his secret identity.

The funny thing is, that this comic book story is told from the perspective of Nightwing telling Batman … and Supergirl telling Superman. Which is interesting, right, because perhaps in another place and another time, this date actually goes off without a hitch. And my Nightwing always carries cash ;)
